Community

The Community Committee prepares social events on campus. We annually plan the Halloween Bash, Jingle Mingle, and try to work in another event during the academic year.

We try not to take too much of our member’s time. We meet 3-4 times via Zoom per event; the first meeting to plan the event and the meeting right before the event take about 45 minutes to an hour. The first planning event meeting and meeting prior to the event is nearly 45 mins to an hour. After our event, we will have a close out meeting and see how we can improve in the future or review feedback.

We have volunteers from the rest of TSEC for the day of the event to help. All event dates are selected beforehand during normal TSEC meetings, so everyone is aware.

Nominations

The TSEC Nominations Committee identifies, recruits, and puts forth a slate of TSEC officers to council membership for a vote. ��The Nominations committee typically has three to four members, one of which is typically the most recent TSEC past president who serves as the Nominations Committee chair. The responsibilities typically run between February and May annually in preparation for the June 1 new officer start date.

Employee Engagement

The TSEC Employee Engagement Committee is responsible for making sure that the voice and opinions of staff are heard and supported. Most recently this has been accomplished through organizing staff town halls and filling staff vacancies on various University committees. Duties for coordinating staff committee assignments include working with HR to identify committee vacancies needing a staff replacement, developing an application and seeking staff applicants for at-large committee positions, recommending nominees and working with the President's office to approve nominees, and staying in communication with staff who applied for, were nominated for, and/or approved to serve on a committee.

The Employee Engagement committee should typically have four volunteers, two of which focus on the University committee assignments and two who focus on town halls and other Employee Engagement initiatives.

Marketing and Branding

The TSEC Marketing and Branding committee oversees and coordinates all internal and external TSEC communications such as, but not limited to, our monthly newsletter, our website, and press releases. The Marketing and Branding committee is responsible for promoting awareness of TSEC within the campus community through promotion of events and information as well and providing a consistent brand for TSEC.

This committee meets twice per month; once to discuss ideas and assign responsibilities, and second to review and look ahead to the month upcoming.

Service and Philanthropy

The biggest event for which Service and Philanthropy is responsible every year is the TSEC and �� Salvation Army collaboration: Elder Angel Tree. This project runs from October to December each fall semester.

Other projects we are involved in include the magazine distribution (which has been on hold since the pandemic, but we hope will start up again soon) and the Warm for the Winter clothing/bedding drive for local two-legged and four-legged charities each winter.

On top of existing events, we are constantly looking for opportunities to donate or give back!

Staff Development

The Staff Development committee coordinates select opportunities for staff professional development and networking.

Presently, those efforts have mainly centered around hosting the annual staff Professional Development Day, which typically occurs in the summer. This event requires the committee to coordinate with other departments, creating a line-up of speakers, and ensuring any meals or snacks necessary are provided. TSEC members are expected to volunteer during the event, but this is not a requirement. The Community committee will also coordinate with us to provide a mixer after the event closes.

In the future, we'd like to partner with other departments across campus to expand to a monthly lunch and learn series and a book club for staff.
