Minor in Education
Students completing the minor fulfill the prerequisites for entry into ÐÔ°®ÌìÌÃ’s Master of Arts in Teaching program, where they will spend a fifth year earning their teaching certification.
Earn your master's and teaching certification in one year
MasterÌýof Arts in Teaching
This 30-hour, one-year graduate program begins in July and is completed over three semesters. During the school year, students take 12 hours each semester while completing a full-year internship under the guidance of a mentor teacher in one of ÐÔ°®ÌìÌÃ’s Professional Development Schools.

Elementary teachers often instruct students in all content areas, emphasizing development in both broad and deep subject matter knowledge.

The Pathways curriculum creates broad content knowledge for teaching as it includes coursework across the humanities and sciences. Selecting any major provides the opportunity to develop deep content knowledge.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites for the program include coursework in science, mathematics, English and social science on their transcript in addition to courses focused on:
- Learning and motivation (EDUC 3320, PSYC 2320 or approved alternative)
- Students with exceptional needs (EDUC 1331)
- Field-based experiences (EDUC 2201)
- Methods courses in literacy, mathematics and science (EDUC 3301, 3341 and 3351)
Or, students can complete theÌýMinor in Teaching, which fulfills the prerequisites for consideration for the Elementary MAT Program.

Where can I Teach?
Teaching is complex, professional work that requires a broad repertoire of knowledge, skills, and the judgment developed from experience about how to best use this repertoire for success. Intensive coaching relationships are prominent in a ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà education, allowing students to hone their practice through a supportive apprenticeship.
Candidates complete clinical practice in cohorts at one of ÐÔ°®ÌìÌÃ's Professional Development Schools. While completing their internships, degree candidates are supervised by carefully identified and specially trained mentor teachers in area Professional Development Schools where ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà has developed a long and sustained partnership.Ìý
