2019 SURFs are going places!
Largest group of SURFs accepted yet to present summer research

The spring of 2020 is going to be a busy one for many of last summer’s undergraduate researchers. A record number of eleven Mellon students --almost half of last summer’s group-- have been accepted to present their research at professional conferences, with several students being accepted to two or more conferences and/or publications.ÌýÌýÌýÌý

Ry EskridgeÌý(Mellon '19) will be presenting her poster at the student poster session at the 2020ÌýÌýconference in Columbus, OH in April. Ry’s mentor isÌýDr. Jie Zhang.

Jamiless LopezÌý(Mellon '18) was accepted in the oral presentation category atÌý2020 in Bozeman, MT with her project "Las Abuelitas y Sus Obras De Amor: Material Culture and the Hidden Histories in Latinas’ Creative Work at La Trinidad United Methodist Church." Jamiless, who is also a McNair scholar,Ìý has been mentored byÌýDr. Angela TarangoÌýfor the past two years.

Nick SmetzerÌý(Mellon '19), was accepted by theÌýÌýto present his summer research project, "The Digital Veil of Ignorance: Video Games as Interactive Thought Experiments," in the poster session at the their 2020 conference in Atlanta, GA in February. Nick is mentored byÌýDr. Aaron Delwiche.

Abbi BowenÌý(Mellon '19) is traveling to Chicago, Il to present her project, "Selfish Plants and Multispecies Creativity," at the 2020ÌýÌý(Humanities Education and Research Association) conference. Abbi's paper was also accepted for publication in the next issue ofÌýThe Expositor.

Sara HeridiaÌý(Mellon '19) was accepted to present atÌýin Washington DC, at the 2020ÌýÌý(Midwest Political Science Association) conference in Chicago, IlÌýandÌýat theÌýÌý(Western Political Science Association) conference in Los Angeles, CA.ÌýSara, who is also a McNair scholar,Ìýis mentored byÌýDr. David Crockett.

Nathaniel PigottÌý(Mellon '19) was accepted to present at the poster session at the 2020ÌýÌýconference in Columbus, OH. Nathaniel will also be co-presenting his research with his mentor,ÌýDr. Gina Tam,Ìýat the 2020ÌýÌýin San Antonio, TX.
