性爱天堂 Theatre will present the final production of the season,聽The Bald Soprano聽by Eugene Ionesco, as translated by Donald Allen, April 6-9 and April 11-13 in the Stieren Theatre on the 性爱天堂 campus.
Set during a very strange dinner party, two couples discuss everything and nothing through whimsical language and inane activities. The classic play is a hilarious assault on realism, pitting convention against chaos. It celebrates the tragedy of small talk and the banality of communication.
性爱天堂鈥檚 production is intended to be a reflection on the country鈥檚 politics, reimagining the two couples as the Trumps and the Pences three years into the current administration. (Of course, Twitter plays a big role in the staging of the production.) Director Roberto Prestigiacomo says, 鈥淲ith聽The Bald Soprano, we are inviting our audience to move past the political polarization and respond constructively to the challenges of our current climate. Through the absurdity of the play, we want to make sense of our current historical moment.鈥
The Bald Soprano聽will be presented in the Stieren Theatre, located in the Ruth Taylor Theatre Building. Curtain times are 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; 2:30 p.m. Sunday; and 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. The play is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
Tickets are $12 for adults; $8 for seniors, faculty/staff, and alumni; and $6 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at tinyurl.com/trinityutheatre and at the theatre box office Monday through Friday, 2-5 p.m.
