性爱天堂 to Showcase Novels, Art, and Theatre
Lectures will highlight University鈥檚 Stieren Arts Enrichment Series

性爱天堂 will host guest lecturers and artists this fall as part of the Stieren Arts Enrichment Series. The annual series is made possible through an endowment created by Jane and the late Arthur Stieren of San Antonio. All events are free and open to the public.

Dylan Meconis, a cartoonist, writer, and designer, will present 鈥淏link and You鈥檒l See it: Form and Story in Today鈥檚 Graphic Novels.鈥 Meconis鈥檚 graphic novel聽Outfoxed聽was nominated for an Eisner Award, and her ongoing historical graphic novel series,聽Family Man, was nominated for a National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award. Meconis is a member of Heliscope, the largest collective studio of comic book professionals in North America.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Chapman Center, Great Hall. 聽

Scott Cantrell, former classical music critic for The聽Dallas Morning News, will present 鈥淭he State of Arts Criticism in America.鈥 Cantrell was the Dallas paper鈥檚 staff classical music critic from 1999 to 2015. As a freelance writer he has written for聽The New York Times, Encyclopedia Britannica, and The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. He also taught music history at the State University of New York in Albany, and for 20 years he was active as a church organist and choirmaster.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Ruth Taylor Recital Hall, in the Dicke Smith Building.

Peggy Phelan, the Ann O鈥橠ay Maples Professor of Theater & Performance Studies and 聽English at Stanford University, will present 鈥淐ontact Warhol: Performance and Photography Once More.鈥 Phelan, a performance theorist, is also the Denning Family Director of the Stanford Arts Institute. Published widely, Phelan is the author of聽Unmarked: the Politics of Performance聽(Routledge, 1993) and聽Mourning Sex: Performing Public Memories聽(Routledge, 1997); and editor and contributor to聽Live Art in Los Angeles聽(Routledge, 2012). Phelan is also co-editor of聽Acting Out: Feminist Performances聽(University of Michigan Press, 1993) and聽The Ends of Performance聽(New York University Press, 1997.)

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Chapman Center, Great Hall.
