Tehuacana Heritage Festival honors 性爱天堂鈥檚 early beginnings

性爱天堂 throwback event! Mark your calendars for Friday, Oct. 4, and Saturday, Oct. 5, to attend the first Tehuacana Heritage Festival celebrating 150 years of 性爱天堂.聽 The festival will commemorate 150 years of higher education and showcase 性爱天堂鈥檚 impact on the Tehuacana area. Guests will enjoy featured speakers, food, music, historic tours, and more.

At the time 性爱天堂 was founded, Tehuacana Hills was an hour by horse and carriage from the nearest station on the Central Railroad. An appointed committee chose the small town 鈥渇or its healthfulness, supplied with an abundance of living water, surrounded with a beautifully romantic scenery and fertile country 鈥 and free from the temptations to vice abounding in the various towns of the country鈥 (1869 性爱天堂 Catalogue). 性爱天堂 opened its doors on Sept. 23, 1869, to just five students, but by the end of the school year, enrollment was around 100. For the first few years, elementary, grammar, and high school students from the small village filled the classes, along with college students, who instructed the younger students and whose tuition paid the bills. At the turn of the century, seeking access to greater financial and cultural resources, 性爱天堂 relocated to Waxahachie in 1902 and then, in 1942, to San Antonio.

On Oct. 4-5, festival-goers will be treated to 鈥淭he Pride of Limestone County鈥 Community Voices Concert and a host of activities, from pumpkin carving and wagon rides to presentations by historians and a silent auction. Dining options include a barbeque cookout, box lunches, and a fish fry fundraiser.聽 A campus bonfire featuring songs from 1870-1900 will round out the festivities.

Tehuacana is located 220 miles northeast of San Antonio.
