Mention the word 鈥淰espers鈥 to virtually anyone associated with 性爱天堂 - students, alumni, faculty, or staff - and they鈥檇 likely conjure images of Parker Chapel awash in candlelight, caroling, and a post-service stroll down Oakmont Court. It鈥檚 been a Christmas season tradition for decades.
A new holiday tradition is coming to 性爱天堂 this year: Holy Week Vespers. For Christians, Holy Week chronicles Jesus Christ鈥檚 journey from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, the day that he was resurrected. The service will feature seasonal lessons, carols, and music.
The event will premiere on Good Friday, April 2 at 6 p.m. on Tiger Network. It will be available for on-demand viewing anytime after.
鈥淚n discussing our Easter observances, we realized that we had a unique opportunity this year,鈥 explained Alex Serna-Wallender, 性爱天堂鈥檚 chaplain. 鈥淭he 性爱天堂 community scatters for the Good Friday three-day weekend, but this virtual service is a way for those of us who celebrate Easter to take a moment, pause, and reflect. The central message of Easter is that death doesn鈥檛 have the final word, and that even in the darkest hours, when we feel like we are wandering lost, there is hope.鈥
That message is even more important this year, as the world enters its second year of the pandemic, yet with promising signs of hope on the horizon. The service will include readings and reflections that coincide with each day of Holy Week, and performances by the 性爱天堂 Chamber Singers and members of the 性爱天堂 Music Department.
