ÐÔ°®ÌìÌÃ

Embracing an international education, ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà students have seven faculty-led summer study abroad programs to choose from in summer 2017. Programs span the globe, exposing students to countries as varied as Costa Rica, China, Germany, Japan, Spain, and Taiwan. Students earn ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà academic course credit for all programs. Featured below is a comprehensive list of ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà summer programs that take students out of the classroom and into the world.

Costa Rican Ecology Program
Monteverde, Costa Rica
June 4 - July 2, 2017

In this , students study the ecological diversity of Costa Rica. Students survey and sample a variety of mammals while studying the physical and cultural differences of Costa Rica from sea level rain forests to high-elevation cloud forests. The course, Costa Rican Ecology: Monitoring Changing Distribution, earns students four academic credits and requires two prerequisites. The program is organized with the Monteverde Institute in Costa Rica.

Ecological Civilization in China Program
Zhuhai, China
June 3 - 24, 2017

At the United International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, China, ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà students learn alongside Chinese students to examine the ecology and biological conservation of China. This , nicknamed EcoCiv, researches environmental issues in both the classroom and in fieldwork. In the past, UIC students have come to the ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà campus to conduct research in the Center for the Sciences and Innovation (CSI). ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà students earn three academic credits for this program.

Field Geology in China
Guizhou and Yunnan Provinces, China
May 30 - June 20, 2017

In this , students travel to southern China to study geosciences, the environment, and the local culture. Prior to the trip, students will have completed a research project with students from Guizhou University and will participate in research presentations and field projects with those students. Students earn three upper division course credits for the program, and at least one geoscience course, or consent of instructor, is required for participation.

Madrid Summer Internship Program
Madrid, Spain
May 15 - July 1, 2017

In Spain’s capital city, students earn six hours of course credit through a  internship and a course on the economy and culture of Spain taught by ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà faculty. Only Spanish is spoken at the internship and complementary course. Each year, students intern at banks, magazines, schools, nonprofits, and private businesses. Students also participate in cultural activities and, on weekends, travel to cities like Toledo, Segovia, and the historical royal residence El Escorial.

Shanghai Summer Program
Shanghai, China
May 16 - July 1, 2017

°Õ³ó±ðÌý begins with a two-week course on contemporary China. Lectures cover the political and economic relationship between China and the United States. Students then start a one-month internship at a Shanghai business. This program is held on the Jiao Tong University campus, situated in the city’s famous French Concession district. Students earn six academic credits in either business, Chinese, economics, or urban studies. 

ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà Japan Program
Kobe, Japan
May 28 - July 7, 2017

This introduces students to contemporary Japanese society, history, business economy, politics, and culture. The program starts with a nine-day travel seminar that will visit Tokyo and Hiroshima. After the travel portion of the program, students will move into Kwansei Gakuin University, where students will take classes with ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà faculty and Japanese students. Students will earn six upper division credits in either political science, economics, or business.

ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà Taiwan Summer Program
Taichung, Taiwan
May 15 - June 23, 2017

In partnership with Tunghai University and their Office of International Education & Programs, this offers coursework in Chinese and engineering sciences. Six credits are available for an introduction to robotics and an exploration of Taiwanese culture. ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà students will learn alongside Taiwanese students. An exchange program is established to bring Tunghai students to the ÐÔ°®ÌìÌà campus for further intercultural study.
