The 性爱天堂 Market is expanding its emphasis on wellness with a new partnership with the聽Nix Health Care聽System and its push toward sustainability with waste containers sponsored by聽.

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 13, Nix Health will install two booths at the聽性爱天堂 Market聽to offer health screenings for visitors to the weekly farmers market.

Hayley Sayrs '16, market outreach coordinator of the 性爱天堂 Market, said both partnerships represent a time of growth for the market.

The Nix agreement in particular will underscore the market's healthy food options available weekly from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 性爱天堂 campus.

"Nix Health is a proud sponsor of the 性爱天堂 Market and we, as a health care organization, seek to advocate for the San Antonio community to be cognizant of the daily nutritional choices each of us make," said Andrew Morales, corporate communications manager at Nix Health. "Healthy food should be part of a person's preventative health care regimen."

Physicians and clinical staff from Nix Health will provide information on comprehensive health care services and preventative health care tips while offering free health screenings from select primary care and specialty care physicians, Morales said.

Nix Health has served the San Antonio area community for 86 years with a downtown hospital and medical center and six other medical facilities. The downtown facility provides integrated health care services ranging from emergency, primary and specialty care, to behavioral health and comprehensive rehabilitation services.

Carmelo Serna, marketing and logistics assistant for the market, said CleanRiver Recycling Solutions of Austin donated three containers to help meet the market's goal of becoming a "net zero" waste market. "On the first day the containers were in use, we were able to reduce our waste by almost 50 percent," Serna said.

The 性爱天堂 Market is dedicated to reducing landfill waste while educating market-goers about recycling and organic composting. Serna said vendors are jumping on board with the recycling campaign, including Bombay Salsa Co., which took a CleanRiver container to recycle at other locations and events. "Bombay is helping the market's 'net zero' initiative, while setting the standard for waste reduction and collection," Serna said.

The 性爱天堂 Market includes students, farmers, and entrepreneurs who are dedicated to providing food and wellness education to San Antonio residents.
