Eleven students at �԰����� have become the latest McNair Scholars as part of a prestigious program that prepares participants for doctoral studies through research and related scholarly activities.

Named after the late physicist and Challenger shuttle astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair and funded by �԰����� and a U.S. Department of Education grant, the McNair Scholars Program offers academic counseling, financial aid advising, mentoring, research opportunities, seminars, paid summer internships, and graduate admissions guidance.  

“We are fortunate that �԰����� recruits so many great students because this allows us to build a strong McNair Program,” said  Kelly Lyons, associate professor of biology and the new McNair Scholars Program director. “These new students will embark on a three-year journey with the goal of attending graduate school. Best of luck to the new Scholars in all their endeavors this year!”

Since its inception at �԰����� in November 2007, the program has served a total of 114 first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students. The new Scholars who began participation this fall are:
