SAN ANTONIO – �԰����� and the City of San Antonio Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will welcome Marc Lamont Hill, a professor of African American Studies at Morehouse College, as the guest speaker of the 2017 MLK Jr. Commemorative Lecture. His lecture, “From Segregation to Social Justice: What Would Martin Say?” will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 in �԰�����’s Laurie Auditorium. The lecture is free, open to the public, and no tickets are required. 

 is currently the host of BET News and VH1 Live, and serves as a political contributor for CNN. An award-winning journalist, he has received numerous awards from the National Association of Black Journalists, GLAAD, and the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Since his youth in Philadelphia, Hill has been a social justice activist and organizer. He is a founding board member of My5th, a nonprofit devoted to educating youth about their legal rights and responsibilities. He is a board member and organizer of the Philadelphia Student Union. Today, Hill also works closely with the ACLU Drug Reform Project, focusing on drug informant policy.

Additionally, Hill is the author or co-author of four books: the award-winning Beats, Rhymes, and Classroom Life: Hip-Hop Pedagogy and the Politics of Identity;��The Classroom and the Cell: Conversations on Black life in America; Nobody: Casualties of America’s War on The Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond; and���ұ�Գٰ����ھ���� (January 2017).

�԰����� began the MLK Jr. Commemorative Lecture Series in 1994. Previous speakers include Freeman Hrabowski III, Tim Wise, Julianne Malveaux, Boyce Watkins, and Ilyasah Shabazz. The University also encourages �԰����� faculty, staff, and students to participate in the San Antonio MLK Jr. March on Jan. 16. Starting at 8:30 a.m., buses will transport participants to the walk through San Antonio’s East Side from the William H. Bell Center.
