�԰����� Press has worked closely with the University community to create a book honoring �԰�����’s 150th anniversary. �԰�����: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future celebrates the story of �԰�����’s past and its strong commitment to the future.

Featuring stories from across disciplines and hundreds of archival photographs, the commemorative book reminds readers of the inspiring and rather unlikely story of �԰�����. The book calls to memory the University’s early roots in Tehuacana and paves the way for changes to come as �԰�����’s creative vision takes shape.

“I love that the book is structured around �԰�����'s values—discovery, excellence, impact, individual, and community—rather than a timeline,” says Jacob Tingle ’95, director of Experiential Learning and co-chair of the 150th anniversary steering committee. “Placing historic images alongside photos of current students paints a clear picture of how the campus has evolved.”

“�԰����� Press involved so many in shaping the book. From project organization help from student intern Beverly Morabito ’19, to book design from Sarah Cooper ’14, to an afterword by Trustee Emeritus James F. Dicke II ’68, a diverse group of people from the University community helped bring the book together,” says education professor Angela Breidenstein ’91, ’92, who also co-chaired the steering committee.

In addition, Academic Affairs, Admissions, Alumni Relations and Development, Athletics, the executive leadership team, Strategic Communications and Marketing, and the library’s Special Collections and Archives all contributed to the final product, as did external readers with knowledge of �԰����� and San Antonio.

“The project is a manifestation of �԰����� as an innovative example of liberal arts education,” says Deneese Jones, vice president for Academic Affairs. “It is an honor to serve at an institution where the entire community can come together to discover, grow, and become the future of thinkers and learners.”

The �԰����� community is invited to attend a party celebrating the book launch on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 2:30 p.m.–5 p.m. in the Coates Library Lobby. The book will be available at a 25 percent discount at this event only. Afterwards, �԰����� will be available from the campus bookstore, the Twig Bookshop, and online wherever books are sold.
